They say a picture is worth a thousand words …. But do you really pay attention to details? What do you see below?
Starting from the right. I see a dad wanting to invest into his sons future in auto racing. He bought Johnny’s late model which was a proven winner. He hired Johnny to be his mentor. Carson also gained input from our dad, John Benson Sr. who drew the track on lined paper and reviewed different points on the track. Valuable input from a 7 time track champion. Can’t get much better than that.
On to Carson, I believe he is 11 or 12 years old in this picture. I remember asking Johnny why are you doing this. I thought being a drivers coach was a thankless job. I said I am not getting attached. As you can see, Carson had some stylish sun glasses along with his Berger Chevrolet hat on. In the particular moment, Carson is truly listening to what Johnny is talking about, instead of checking his phone. . As he should be since the guy on the right is paying for this.
On to Johnny, looks like he is firm in the discussion trying to get his point across. Is he real waving his finger at Carson? A couple of ladies who responded to the Berlin Raceway photographer post wanted to break or bend Johnnys finger. Seriously??
Take a closer look. Blow the photo up. Johnny is pointing towards turn 1. Just look at his eyes.
Scott and Johnny did their best to lay the ground work for Carson’s future. He had already won hundreds of trophies all over the country. And by way, Carson Hocevar had a CHANCE to win the Daytona 500 on Sunday, February 15th, 2026.
