GMMG Door Tag & Engine ID?

........I continue to have photo upload problems --- tried to start another thread --- no luck yet

Post by daytonajim » Mon Nov 19, 2012 10:51 am

How do I read the door Tag & determine what engine is in the car?

DOOR TAG....

1st # is model year

*2nd number is Engine - 1 is LS1 & 6 is LS6

GMMG Door tag is not in sequence with car #

* GMMG upgraded many engines after the original build & the door tag May not reflect this. The 2nd number is the engine that was in the car wen it was originally built by Matt & GMMG.

Please let us know if you have information to add or corrections. Jim Smith - GMMG Registry

11035 ---Berger SS #45 - Phase IIX/475hp

1st number is 1 - 2001

2nd number is 1 - LS-1 - 380hp - (later upgraded)

Last 3 - 035 - car sequence (not the car #)

SS #45 is Phase IIX/475hp -automatic that was upgraded after the original build.

The door tag matches the car # & Vin for PE #37 - 2002 - LS1-380hp (upgraded to Phase IIX/475hp) & car #37

How can I determine what engine is in the car?

LS1 Phase 1 - 380hp - There is a stamp on the passenger side - middle of the heads where the black braded hose is.

Wipe it off because it will be hard to see.

(If the car has headers it will not be there)

LS1 Phase II & IIX - the passenger side head will be stamped (front)

From Jim's Berger SS #76 - Phase II/435hp - (note car # - B 76)

Others? There is a stamped plate on the top center of the engine
