One of the last projects that Dale Earnhardt was involved in
One of only 83 built, this 2001 Chevrolet Camaro SS “Intimidator” has only 69 miles on the odometer, and it’s the ultimate combination for any Camaro enthusiast, NASCAR fan or collector of rare automobiles. This special-edition Camaro was created just months before Dale Earnhardt’s untimely death at the 2001 Daytona 500. At the time of the crash, 30 of these cars were spoken for, and hundreds of requests were received during the weeks following his death. The Intimidator Camaro was in high demand from then on, and it has always ranked high on the list of collectible Camaros. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Dale Earnhardt’s legacy.
The special SS Intimidator models were procured from Chevrolet as Super Sport cars, then modified by GMMG Inc. before being sold to a select few buyers. This example was sold new at Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet in Newton, North Carolina. It is No. 60 of the 83 production cars (not counting the prototypes). The car is dealership fresh, down to the flawless black paint, special grille and commemorative emblems. It features a black leather interior with Intimidator SS floor mats, dash plaque, console emblem and key fob.
For horsepower, the Intimidator came with a modified LS1, which offered 381 HP, although that figure has been rumored to be slightly underrated. The modified engine is backed by a 6-speed manual transmission, which features a specific short-throw shifter. All Intimidator SS models came with 1.5-inch lowering springs and a set of 17x9.5-inch American Racing 200S wheels with Magnetallic Grey spokes to match the stinger hood stripe. This example is still rolling on its original Goodyear Eagle F1 tires and has been carefully preserved since new. The car comes with its original fitted car cover with Intimidator SS logo, window sticker, order invoice, reference books and owner’s manual.
