#38 Dale Earnhardt Intimidator SS - Craig
......from DEI #38 owner ---- Craig
I first heard about the 2001 Earnhardt Intimidator Camaros in early January of that year. I have owned 15 Camaros thru the years (mostly 1st and 3rd gen) and was in the market for a 4th generation and this one seemed to satisfy my needs.
BUT, I wanted to see one 'Live and in Person'. Since Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet is only about 175 miles from me, I placed a phone call and talked with Ms. Mitsy Brewster who was coordinating the commings' and goings' of the cars. I asked her if a Intimidator was there and her reply was "No, many of them are at GMMG except for the prototypes". DARN!!!!!!!!!.
However, Ms. Brewster did send me the promotional brochure about them and I still have the original she sent me along with several others.
I sent my $3000 deposit to DEC on Saturday, February, 17th to get on the waiting list.
Then on Sunday the 18th myself, like millions of other people watched the 2001 Daytona 500 live on TV. I still remember vividly when Nascar president Mike Hilton announced "We have lost Dale as a result of the crash on the last lap of the 500". I was STUNNED and wondered if all 100 of the cars would be built which is what Dale wanted.
Finally, in late May of 2001 I got a call from DEC telling me my # 38 was there and I could pick it up anytime. Needless to say I was grinning from ear to ear.
PS: All of the original owners should have received a personalized calendar with a attached photo of the proud new owner in front of Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet.
DEI #38 is in the Floyd Garrett Museum
I am uploading these photos fort Craig - seeing if they will stay so we can see them. Jim
