DESCRIPTION
One of the most prolific and well respected designers at GM, John Cafaro is well known as the Chief Designer of the C5 Corvette and has been involved in Corvette design since 1991. He was also responsible for the bodywork and graphic design for the Chevrolet Raceshop and GM Motorsports from 1992-1999. His designs have won Motor Trend Car of the Year for the 1984 Corvette, the Autoweek Magazine Award for the 1997 Corvette Coupe, North American International Auto Show Car of the Year (1998 Corvette convertible) and Motor Trend Car of the Year (1998 Corvette convertible).
It is no surprise then to know that Cafaro would go the extra miles in personalizing his own C5 Corvette convertible offered here. A 2004 model with only 9,298 miles, its most noticeable feature is the chopped windshield and resulting lower convertible top, which together remove eight inches from the car’s overall height. Emphasizing this are a high-rise hood, a Skunk Werkes body kit with front canard spoilers, body-color strakes in the side vent outlets and a unique rear spoiler. Lowered suspension takes it even closer to the road, where it rides on HRE 20" rear and 19" front wheels with Dunlop Sport 9000 rubber all around. A specially designed Corsa system adds a unique note to the Vette’s already sweet-sounding LS1 exhaust note.
Inside the driver is treated to custom suede upgrades on the steering wheel, door pulls, shifter knob and boot, and both power seats are fitted with competition Simpson harnesses.
With all the interest that has developed in earlier “designer-edition” special Corvettes, this fifth-generation Corvette convertible, daringly customized and driven by its creator, should generate a great deal of attention from collectors.
