The buzz this week after a 1969 YENKO set the world record for the highest priced Camaro to ever sell @ $1.8M

I have had numerous discussions & thought I'd see how others feel about GMMG's future value.

January 18, 2026 - Jim Smith - my 2-cents

GMMG's future values - trying to look into the future.

After the sale of 1969 Yenko @ $1.8M (world record for Camaro)

Let’s have a GMMG future value discussion
……. Please share your thoughts & comments.

The value & cost of money – 2002 vs. 2026
(Today vs. 2002) - 1.8 times 2002 cost

GMMG’s vs 50+ year old YENKO’s & ZL1’s

The value calculator for 2002 vs 2026 provides a detailed comparison of the purchasing power of the U.S. dollar over the years. It shows that $1 in 2002 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $1.80 today, reflecting an increase of $0.80 over 24 years. The average inflation rate during this period was 2.48% per year, leading to a cumulative price increase of 80.17%. This means that today's prices are 1.80 times as high as average prices since 2002. The current inflation rate is 2.03%, and if this rate holds, $1 today will be equivalent in buying power to $1.02 next year. The calculator also provides insights into how inflation can vary by city and country, offering a more nuanced view of purchasing power changes over time.

2026 GMMG Values:

A few things to consider………..

GMMG’s are still too new - 23-25 years old in 2026 vs over 50 years old for YENKO’s & ZL1’s.

In today’s money - multiplier is 1.8…….

A $120,000 GMMG cost would be $216,000
A $ 90.000 GMMG cost would be $162,000
A $ 60,000 GMMG cost would be $108,000
A $ 45,000 GMMG cost would be $ 81,000

Where are GMMG’s selling in January 2026?

TRENDS: January 2026.

Dick Harrell’s C5R’s have sold north of $200k – a couple in $250k+ range.
There are a couple of standing offers over $300k if the owner wants to sell.

ZL1’s C5R’s are north of $125k with a couple in the $150k - $175k range.
Other GMMG’s are north of $50k to $100k+

It continues to be more difficult to find good GMMG’s under $50k.

Are GMMG’s a good Investment? Why or why not?

Why?
The build numbers are small.
Only about 500 total cars were built.
400+ Camaros & 100+ Pontiac TA’s & & Formulas
A number of collectors have realized this & have been buying GMMG’s.

About 20% are already in collections in 2026.

Comments I made on the Forum back in 2018..................................

Where are the Dick Harrell's & ZL1 Super Cars?

The Collectors are already buying up as many GMMG's as possible.

Why? - Collectors are convinced (like I am) that GMMG’s are going to be solid long-term investments.

GMMG's are still too new but are increasing in value. - Especially anything with the C5R '427' or '454' motors.

Here's the breakdown as of Dec. 1, 2018

ZL1's - 69 built - At least 21 are in Collections - That's about 31% that are already out of the market.

Dick Harrell's
- 34 total built - At least 21 are in Collections - That's about 62% that are already out of the market.

In total about 41% of all ZL1's & Dick Harrell's are with Large Collectors

C5R '427' Race Motors - GMMG planned to build 100. Only 99 were installed. Most of them went into Dick Harrell's & ZL1 Supercars.

If you look at the C5R boxes stacked up @ GMMG you will see one missing (top right). This motor was being saved for DEI #20. I saw DEI #20 in a container waiting for the C5r when I visited GMMG in 2009. It never happened & the CA owner took the car back when GMMG shut the doors. As Paul Harvey says...Now you know the rest of the story.

-------------------------------- from Forum..........

Large COLLECTIONS

A handful of collectors have over 110 of the total 550 GMMG’s built.

Over 20% of all GMMG’s built are already in large collections.

Do the collectors know something others don't?

I say yes! - Over time GMMG’s will appreciate & be similar to the Muscle Cars of the ‘60’s. (COPO, ZL1 Super Cars, Nickey & others).

The build numbers are small. GMMG’s are still too new & need to age more before the values really appreciate. - The collectors are counting on this.

We are already seeing that the large horsepower C5R ‘427, s’ GMMG’s are bring way more than LS1 GMMG’s.

Dick Harrell’s & ZL1’s command the most money.

Fall 2018

Where will GMMG’s be in 25 more years when they are 50+ years old?

Who knows? Not all the GMMG Models will increase at the faster rate.

What GMMG's will increase the most?

We are already seeing this with..........

Dick Harrell's

ZL1's

Other with C5R '427' / '454'

My thoughts guessing on inflation & YENKO & ZL1 50+ year old Camaro’s.…………..

My guess (conservative) is a 50-year-old GMMG

Dick Harrell will be in the 4 to 6+ times range

C5R & ZL'1 will be in the 4 to 5+ times range

Other GMMG's will be in the 3+ times range

2002 ----- 2026 1.8X ----- @ 4 --------- @ 5X ----- @ 6X

$120k ....... $216K .......$580K ..... $625K ..... $750K
$ 90k ....... $162K .......$360K .......$450K ..... $540K
$ 60K ....... $108k .......$240K ...... $300K
$ 45K ....... $ 81K .......$180K ....... $225K

HOLD ON A MINUTE!!!!

This is the range 50+ old YENKO’s & ZL1’s are selling for today.

The collectors in the know are spot on & I do not see any reason GMMG’s will not continue to go up in value & be great investments.

That’s why I have GMMG’s.

What do you have to say?

One more closing thought.......... Even if you think you are paying too much for a GMMG, buy it because it will be a solid investment.

My 2 cents:

With that said in today's money your GMMG should be worth at least 1.8 times original cost.

If you have stated value insurance, you might want to consider raising the replacement cost.

If you currently own a GMMG this is good news.

If you plan to sell a GMMG raise the selling price to reflect today's money.

If you are looking to buy a GMMG do it now.

A couple of years ago you could find $20k cars.

Today it is difficult to find anything under $40k. The prices will continue to go up just like I have been saying for years.

GMMG's were not old enough but they are now.
