#60 Nickey ZL-1 Red/White
Originally built for Stefano Bimbi @ NicKey.
Stefano sold ZL1 #60 @ some point in time & more recently has been in the Richard Berry Collection out east & has been for sale @ Mecum a few times in 2013 - 2014.
Does anyone know if it sold & who the current owner is?

RETURN TO COLLECTION
2002 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 - F288 Photo 1
2002 Chevrolet
From the Richard Berry Collection
DESCRIPTION
To Camaro faithful the 1969 ZL1 was the ultimate Camaro, employing the all-aluminum 427 big block V-8 of the same name to dish up big block power with the handling agility of a small block car. When Chevrolet announced that the Camaro would bow from production after 2002, the GM Specialty Vehicles Group joined forces with GMMG Inc. – creators of the Dale Earnhardt Intimidator SS and other GM special editions, to revive the ZL1 badge on a limited edition Camaro that would do the original proud. After consulting with numerous owners of original ZL1 Camaros, GMMG had the specifications for a limited run of 69 2002 ZL1 coupes. They adapted the all-aluminum LS6 engine and heavy duty clutch assembly from the Corvette Z06, along with the Z06’s larger disc brakes, spoked aluminum wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. 4.11 gears were installed and the suspension was upgraded with Penske triple adjustable shocks, bigger sway bars and progressive rate springs to produce handling worthy of the car’s all-around performance heritage. Special graphics recall the Stinger hood and SS “hockey stick” stripes of old, and special ZL1 fender badges identified the cars as the new generation of Camaro supercars. If that was not enough, buyers could opt for the Stage III version, exemplified by this Rally Red coupe from the Richard Berry Collection. One of 37 Stage II cars, it uses the C5-R-based 427/600 HP behemoth and features a unique dash-mounted switch to open the headers and allow the engine to breath freely – and to roar like the original. The only Nickey Edition produced, this second-generation ZL1 is also signed under the hood by Fred and Helen Gibb, Ken Barnhart and others associated with the ZL1’s fascinating history.

Yes, we have the #60 car here in our Exotic Cars of Houston showroom, a division of the Hyundai store which is part of the Potamkin Auto Group. Here's a link to the car on my exotic cars website: http://www.exoticcarsofhouston.com/Deta ... e-iii-6069
The car is here on consignment from a collector/client of ours. One question I don't have an answer to yet is why the engine block was painted yellow on this one. I haven't found another one like it yet.

Thanks for sharing - I visited with Stefano @ Nickey last fall about this car. It was an interesting story.
Yellow engine block? - My guess is that Stefano wanted it that way. Contact him @ Nickey Chicago & he might have the answer. Please share more.

I spoke with Stefano about the Nickey car last night. Great to hear about the car's beginning from Stefano himself! As Nickey was one of the builders actually swapping engines, one personalization option they offered was to paint your engine to the color of your choosing. He said 3 Nickey cars were featured on the cover of magazines in that time which all happened to have yellow engines. This helped them become somewhat known for their yellow engines. So, when Stefano went to spec out this '02 ZL1 Phase III as the Nickey Chevrolet tribute car, he had the engine painted yellow during its build as a nod to Nickey's heritage. Since it was a Phase III car, he also chose to option it with performance and racing in mind with things like the 4.10 rear end, Hurst line lock, roll cage, and the Penske shocks built and valved specifically for this car.

I think Fred Gibb died in 1994???? Impossible for him to sign a 2002 GMMG. Jim's 2 cents
Finding out new information is the best part of doing the GMMG Registry. We are always learning.
