Here is my 2002 35th Anniversary Brickyard 400 SS convertible I bought from Berger Chevrolet on December 29th, 2001. Berger actually delivered the car to my house in an enclosed trailer. I did all GMAC financing paperwork at my kitchen table with Dennis Barker. I had originally ordered a 35th Anniversary SS convertible from Berger on July 3rd, 2001 when the orders were opened up. I waited forever for my car to be built for what ever reason even though I had one of the 1st orders. Ended up being about 6 months before I took delivery of the car. Scott Settlemire told me months prior that all of the Brickyard 400 cars were spoken for and in early December 2001, he called me at 9am while I was at work asking if I wanted a brand new SS that I had ordered or one with 2,100 miles that has a lot of history. Scott said the GM employee that wanted the car backed out at the last minute. Scott wanted a yes or no right then if I wanted the car since he had others interested in it as well. I told him yes then he asked me which dealer in the country do I want it shipped to. I told him Berger. The car was back in the Detroit area in one of GMs special toy box buildings and would then needed to be delivered to Berger to make it official. About an hour after I talked to Scott, Dennis Barker called and says the truck with my car just arrived. Wow! I asked Dennis if Scott had called him to explain the Brickyard 400 and he had no idea Scott was shipping the Brickyard to Berger. Since the 35th Anniversary Camaro SS' were a limited production not every Chevy dealer in the country got one. Berger had a waiting list and was allocated 3 cars from GM. I was third on the list. I told Dennis to give it to the next person on the list and I will still be taking deliver of the Brickyard through Berger since they have my prior cars deposit money. Wow, those were some exciting times. I drove the car a few days later in the snow to a local park with the top down since I could not wait another 4 months for good weather to drive it.
Here is the Brickyard at the 40th Camaro reunion at the GM Tech Center. I was able to have Cheryl and VP Ed Pepper sign the car that day.
I have not heard of many people that took delivery of the vehicle from Berger Chevrolet at their kitchen table with Dennis Barker. That was a cool tme.
