2001 DEI Intimidator SS

The Numbers
86: Dale Earnhardt Intimidator SS Camaros were built.
1: ’00 PR2 (prototype owned by Dale Jr – is a 2000)

10th number of the VIN is the year

‘Y’ is 2000 – PR2

‘1’ is 2001 – PR1

1: ’00 prototype …..PR2 (Dale Jr.)

1: ’01 prototype….PR1 (Dale Sr.)
83: ’01 numbered cars.
1: ’02 – PR3?? (non-numbered, specially built for Kelley Earnhardt).

Why was Dale Jr. 2000 PR2 & Dale Sr. 2001 PR1? No clue.

33: Total silver-faced dashes were signed by Dale Sr.
Car numbers with black signed dashes: 1-28, 46, 50, 52 and two prototypes.

32 signed in black ink and 1 signed in blue ink. (What # is signed in blue ink?)

38: T-tops. – 47: B4C Coupes.

1 Convertible
Both prototypes were T-tops.

5 – ASR T-Top – 5 California Emissions – All 6 speeds

Last car is number 83.
30 deposits were taken before Dale Sr.’s death.
400 requests were received the week after the accident.
Intimidator SS #3 is owned by DEI and is believed to have less than 40 miles on the odometer.

Did you know about the DEI delivery program? It included a tour of the race shop and was an option and additional cost to the purchase of the car, but of course, none got that in the wake of Dale’s passing.

Did your car come with embroidered floor mats? Lots of folks never received theirs, as well as key fobs and car covers. Mine has those, including paper DE chevy floor mats.

Hey Jim,
A few questions concerning the subject line:
1. Who installed them? GM, SLP or GMMG?
2. Every Black SS I’ve seen has black background with red outlined emblems.
3. Every other color SS I’ve seen has black background with silver outlined emblems.
4. My DEI and every other one has silver outlined emblems.
5. Did GMMG choose the silver outlined emblem thinking they would look better on the black DEI cars?
Might be a question to ask all DEI owners on the Registry.

Great question – My money is that Matt changed them. He often changed the ‘bow-tie’ emblem & other emblems.

Examples – Grill emblems………….

Dick Harrell had Gold bow-tie

ZL-1 had Blue bow-tie

DEI had White SS

Berger SS had White SS

HRE had Red bow-tie

Tom Henry had White SS

Performance Edition had White SS

May 20, 2012 – following the DEI cars for sale & sold …………………. Info from Jim Simon…..

Here is some perspective on pricing for signed cars.

DEI #6. Approximately 240 miles asking 98,000.

DEI #1. 1,700 miles, 95,000.

DEI # 20. 39 miles 85,000. (Latebrakeu2)

I could have bought the #21 car for 45,000 a couple of years ago and blew it! It had 611 miles on it and sold at auction for 57,500.

DEI #18 was recently for sale for 55,000.

I don’t know what it sold for but I think it did. DEI #7 sold for 55,000 back in 2007.

DEI #50 was for sale in 2010 for 60,000. It is the only phase 2 signed car that I know of.

The steal was the #15 car that only had 525 miles on it and sold for 32,000! Latebrakeu2 is right though.

The lower the miles the better the outcome.

I think this #12 car is a good deal. I’ll bet you could buy it for 45,000 and 700 miles is still low miles.

These cars should be sure collector cars in the future so if you can buy it you should.
